Australia Warehouse Worker Visa Options 2026: Which Route Fits Your Role

If you are searching for warehouse jobs with visa sponsorship in Australia in 2026, start with one hard fact. Picker/packer, storeperson and forklift driver are not on the Core Skills Occupation List, so the standard employer-sponsored 482 visa does not cover them. The routes that can still work are labour agreements, regional area agreements (DAMAs) and a small group of supply-chain management roles. This guide shows which route fits which job, what warehouse pay looks like next to the official salary floor, and what to do if your role cannot be sponsored.

1. Warehouse Jobs With Visa Sponsorship in Australia: What Qualifies in 2026

For most entry-level roles, the main sponsored work visa is closed. The Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) replaced the old Temporary Skill Shortage visa on 7 December 2024. Its Core Skills stream only accepts a nomination for an occupation on the Core Skills Occupation List, which names 456 occupations.

The warehouse-related entries on that list are managers and analysts, not floor roles. They include Supply and Distribution Manager, Procurement Manager, Fleet Manager and Supply Chain Analyst. Officers judge your real duties, not your job title.

Quick Answer: Pickers, packers, storepersons and forklift drivers are not on the Core Skills Occupation List. Their realistic routes are a labour agreement, a regional DAMA, or moving into a role that is on the list.

The table below shows how common warehouse roles line up with the list. The list can change, so check it again before you apply.

2. What Warehouse Work Pays Against the Visa Income Floor

The national minimum wage rose to AUD 26.44 an hour, or AUD 1,004.90 for a 38-hour week, from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026. Most warehouse staff are paid under an award or a company agreement, not at that bare minimum. Under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award pay guide, a storeworker at Grade 1 starts at AUD 27.08 an hour, and Grade 4 reaches AUD 29.61.

Now compare those rates with the salary floor. For nominations lodged between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027, the Core Skills Income Threshold, set out in the Home Affairs salary requirements, is AUD 79,423 a year. Spread over a 38-hour week, that is about AUD 40.19 an hour, well above any storeworker award grade.

Grade 4AUD 29.61AUD 1,125.30AUD 58,516AUD 20,907

Key Statistic: The Core Skills Income Threshold is AUD 79,423 for nominations lodged from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, up from AUD 76,515. The figure counts earnings without non-monetary benefits such as accommodation or a car.

Overtime and weekend penalty rates lift real earnings, but do not assume they count towards the threshold, which looks at guaranteed annual earnings. Ask the employer’s migration adviser what is included. Employers also pay superannuation on top of wages, at 12% of ordinary time earnings since 1 July 2025.

Plan from take-home pay, not gross. The estimates below use 2026–27 resident tax rates (15% from AUD 18,201 to 45,000, then 30% up to AUD 135,000) and the 2% Medicare levy. They ignore overtime, offsets and super and assume you are a tax resident, so check your own case with the Australian Taxation Office.

3. Employer Sponsorship Under the 482 Core Skills Stream

If your role is on the list, the 482 Core Skills stream is the cleanest route. Your employer must be an approved sponsor, nominate you, show it could not find an Australian worker through labour market testing, and pay at least the Annual Market Salary Rate for the job and no less than the income threshold. The visa lasts up to four years.

Home Affairs lists these personal requirements.

  • At least one year of relevant work experience in the nominated occupation or a related field.
  • A skills assessment, if your occupation requires one.
  • An English test taken within three years before you apply, such as IELTS with at least 5.0 in each component.
  • Work only for your sponsor, in the nominated role.

The visa application charge for the 482 rose to AUD 4,015 for primary applicants for applications lodged from 1 July 2026, with Pacific Island and Timor-Leste citizens eligible for a lower charge. Permanent residence is possible later through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186). Under the Temporary Residence Transition stream, you usually need two years of full-time sponsored work in the three years before applying, and the employer who sponsored you must nominate you.

4. Warehouse Jobs With Visa Sponsorship in Australia Through Labour Agreements and DAMAs

A labour agreement lets an approved business sponsor workers when a need cannot be met locally and the standard programs do not fit. Home Affairs says these agreements generally run for five years and can lead to 482, 186 or 494 visas.

A Designated Area Migration Agreement is a deal between the federal government and a state, territory or regional body. Home Affairs lists 13 of them, including Far North Queensland, the Northern Territory, Orana in New South Wales, the Pilbara in Western Australia and South Australia Regional. An individual cannot apply on their own. The employer must first win endorsement from the regional representative, show a genuine attempt to recruit Australians, and then request a labour agreement.

The occupations and concessions differ by region, so a role that works in one DAMA may be absent from the next. South Australia’s regional DAMA list is a useful example for warehouse readers. It includes a Cold Store Operator role and a Crane, Hoist or Lift Operator role, and it offers concessions such as a lower English score of IELTS 5.0 overall with 4.0 in each band, and a salary threshold concession for some occupations. It does not list storeperson or forklift driver. Check the current list for any region you target, because these lists change.

A DAMA concession belongs to the employer’s agreement, not to you. A job advert that says “DAMA” is only useful if the employer holds an approved agreement and your exact occupation is on that region’s list.

5. The Regional 494 Visa and the Road to Permanent Residence

The Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa, subclass 494, lets you live and work in a designated regional area for five years. Designated regional areas cover all of Australia except Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. It is not an easy-entry visa. You need three years of full-time experience in the occupation (casual work is not counted), a skills assessment unless exempt, to be under 45 unless an exemption applies, and Competent English.

One claim in older guides is wrong. The salary floor for the 494 is not lower than for the 482. Home Affairs sets the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold at AUD 79,423 for nominations lodged between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027, the same figure as the Core Skills threshold. Labour-agreement versions of the 494 can carry different terms, including age limits.

After three years on a 494, you may apply for permanent residence through the Skilled Regional visa (subclass 191). You must hold an eligible visa for three years and supply tax assessments for three of the five income years. There is no minimum income requirement for that step. The employer-sponsored 494 and 186 carry an application charge of AUD 6,140 for primary applicants from 1 July 2026.

6. Which Route Fits Your Warehouse Role?

Match your situation to a route before you spend money on tests or agents. The table sets out the main conditions Home Affairs publishes, as a screening tool and not a promise of eligibility.

If you pick, pack or drive a forklift and have no management duties, your realistic target is an employer with a labour agreement or DAMA in a regional area. Find which regional agreement covers the town, then check that region’s occupation list. If you supervise teams, run inventory systems or manage suppliers, compare your duties line by line with the listed management and supply-chain occupations.

7. How to Apply for a Sponsored Warehouse-Role Visa, Step by Step

The order matters, because the employer nominates you before the visa application can succeed. These steps cover the usual route for the sponsored visas above.

  1. Check your duties against the Core Skills list and the occupation list of the DAMA or agreement that applies to the employer.
  2. Book an English test and gather payslips, contracts and references that prove your experience.
  3. Ask whether your occupation needs a skills assessment, and start it early.
  4. Apply to employers that hold a labour agreement, a DAMA endorsement or approved sponsor status.
  5. Wait for the employer to complete labour market testing and lodge the nomination.
  6. Lodge your visa application in ImmiAccount, pay the official charge there, and attach health and police checks.
  7. Do not resign or buy non-refundable flights before the grant, and work only for your sponsor once you arrive.

A registered migration agent can help, but you do not need one to apply. Check any agent against the official register before you pay.

8. If Your Role Cannot Be Sponsored

This is the usual outcome for entry-level pickers and packers, so plan for it. First, ask whether you can build towards a listed occupation. Warehouse experience combined with inventory systems, procurement or supply-chain study may support a move into roles that are on the list, though that takes years and a skills assessment.

Second, look at employers in DAMA regions that explicitly list your type of work, because those are the only entry points for floor roles. Third, consider other countries with employer-sponsored schemes. Our guides on Canadian employer sponsorship under the LMIA and New Zealand’s accredited employer route show what those look like.

Pro Tip: Before paying for a visa, ask the employer in writing which visa subclass it will use, which occupation code it will nominate, and what annual salary it will guarantee. A genuine sponsor answers these quickly. If you also want to see how another Australian sector handles sponsorship, read our guide to construction jobs in Australia for foreigners.

Budget before you move, whatever the route. Arrival costs include short-term housing and health cover that suits your visa, and you should compare international money transfer providers on exchange rate as well as fees.

9. Visa Scams and Fees to Watch For

Home Affairs warns that scam agents often make contact through social media and messaging apps. It states that no one can guarantee an Australian visa and that it does not charge extra fees to issue one. Be wary of anyone who asks for a large upfront payment to “fast-track” a visa, or who will not let you check your application in ImmiAccount.

Important Note: Emails that claim to come from Home Affairs but do not end in .gov.au are scams. A genuine registered migration agent has a Migration Agent Registration Number and appears on the OMARA register. Official visa charges are paid only through ImmiAccount.

If an offer promises permanent residence, a “CIS charge”, or a visa without asking for your documents, walk away. Read the Home Affairs visa scam warning signs before you pay anyone. Apply the same caution to any recruiter who asks you to pay for a sponsored job.

10. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get warehouse jobs with visa sponsorship in Australia in 2026?

It is possible, but not through the standard 482 route for picker, packer, storeperson or forklift roles. You would need an employer with a labour agreement or a regional DAMA that lists your occupation. Managers and analysts in supply-chain roles can use the Core Skills stream.

What is the minimum salary for a 482 Core Skills visa?

The Core Skills Income Threshold is AUD 79,423 for nominations lodged from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. Some websites quote AUD 79,499, but Home Affairs lists AUD 79,423.

Can a forklift driver get a sponsored visa?

Forklift driver is not on the Core Skills Occupation List, so that route is closed. A lift-operator role appears on South Australia’s DAMA list, but each region sets its own list.

Do I need an English test?

Most applicants for the 482 Core Skills stream must pass an approved test, with IELTS requiring at least 5.0 in each component. The 494 and 186 streams need Competent English, a higher level, though some agreements offer lower requirements.

Advertisements

Can I get permanent residence after sponsored warehouse work?

Yes, but only through a sponsored visa that has a permanent pathway. The 482 can lead to the 186 after about two years of full-time sponsored work with the same employer, and a 494 can lead to the 191 after three years.

11. Next Steps

Write down your actual duties and compare them with the Core Skills Occupation List and your target region’s DAMA list. If you do not match a listed role, shortlist regional employers that hold labour agreements or DAMA endorsements. Book your English test while you search.

If you do find an offer, confirm the employer, the salary and the visa subclass in writing before you pay for anything. Treat warehouse jobs with visa sponsorship in Australia in 2026 as a targeted search for the right agreement, not a general job hunt.
