Finding UK visa sponsorship jobs in 2026 starts with one free tool: the Home Office’s Register of Licensed Sponsors. It lists the organisations allowed to sponsor workers, so you can check an employer in a few minutes instead of trusting a list on a blog. For most Skilled Worker jobs you must be paid the higher of £41,700 a year or the going rate for the occupation. You may see £43,000 quoted online as a target, but that is not an official figure.
Last checked against official sources: October 2026.
1. What a Licensed Sponsor Is, and What the Register Cannot Tell You
A UK employer cannot hire you on a Skilled Worker visa unless the Home Office has approved it. The employer then gives you a certificate of sponsorship for a specific job, and you need that certificate and a confirmed job offer before you can apply. Without both, there is no application to make.
Being on the register shows only that an employer is allowed to sponsor. The register does not show vacancies, job titles or salaries, and it does not tell you the employer is hiring right now. Think of it as a filter that removes fake offers, not as a job board.
Quick Answer: Before you share documents or pay anyone, search for the employer on the official register. If the organisation is not there, or is not licensed for the route you need, the sponsorship offer is not real.
The file changes often. The GOV.UK page showed an update dated 9 October 2026, and its log lists changes on most working days. Always download a fresh copy on the day you check.
2. How to Find UK Visa Sponsorship Employers on the Official Register, Step by Step
The register is a spreadsheet, not a search box. The CSV on the GOV.UK register of licensed sponsors for workers was about 10 MB when we checked, so open it on a laptop in Excel or Google Sheets rather than on a phone.
Each row is one licence for one organisation. Column headings include the organisation name, town or city, county, type and rating, and route. Headings can change between versions, so use the names rather than column letters.
- Open the GOV.UK register page and download the latest CSV file. Note the date in the file name.
- Open it in a spreadsheet and switch on filters for the header row.
- Filter the route column for “Skilled Worker”. If you are a nurse or doctor, filter for “Health and Care Worker” as well.
- Filter the type and rating column for an A rating.
- Filter by town, city or county to narrow the list to places where you would live.
- Search for a short part of the employer’s name, such as the main word without “Limited”. Registered names often differ from the brand name you know.
- Once you find a match, go to that employer’s own careers page and look for a vacancy that fits your occupation. Apply only through that page or through a recruiter you have checked.
The rating matters. An A rating is the one you want. A B rating generally means the employer is on a Home Office action plan and cannot issue new certificates, so it is not a safe target for a new hire.
Pro Tip: Filter by route first, then by city, then sort by organisation name. The same employer can appear in several rows, so one name does not mean one licence.
The register answers only one question: who can sponsor? Whether they will sponsor you depends on the job, the salary offered and your own qualifications.
3. The Salary Rules for UK Visa Sponsorship in 2026
For most Skilled Worker jobs, GOV.UK says you must be paid at least £41,700 a year or the going rate for your job, whichever is higher. The £41,700 figure has applied since 22 July 2025. Each occupation code has its own going rate, published in the Appendix Skilled Occupations. The annual figures assume a 37.5-hour week and are reduced pro rata for shorter hours.
Healthcare and education jobs follow national pay scales instead. A few going rates also sit below the general figure. IT quality and testing professionals (code 2136), for example, have a going rate of £41,200, so the £41,700 floor applies to them.
Lower pay is allowed in some cases. The GOV.UK page on when you can be paid less sets out the main ones.
| Your situation | Share of going rate | Minimum salary |
|---|---|---|
| Under 26, recent graduate, student or in professional training | 70% | £33,400 |
| PhD in a relevant STEM subject | 80% | £33,400 |
| PhD in a relevant non-STEM subject | 90% | £37,500 |
| Postdoctoral post in listed science or higher education codes | 70% | £33,400 |
| Job on the immigration salary list | 100% | £33,400 |
Key Statistic: A software developer (code 2134) has a going rate of £54,700. An offer of £45,000 clears the £41,700 floor but still fails the going rate.
The discounts have limits. The under-26 and postdoctoral categories cap your total UK stay at four years, including any Graduate visa time. The immigration salary list and the temporary shortage list are also due to end on 31 December 2026, and the Migration Advisory Committee’s July 2026 report recommended 28 occupations for a successor list lasting 18 months. Check the live list before you count on it, and see our guide to the UK Temporary Shortage List.
4. Which Sectors Offer UK Visa Sponsorship Jobs Above the Threshold
The going rate is the median pay for an occupation code, so well-paid professional fields sit well above £41,700. The table shows rates from the official appendix for degree-level jobs that readers often ask about. Your job duties must match the code, not just the job title.
| Occupation | SOC code | Going rate a year |
|---|---|---|
| Programmers and software development professionals | 2134 | £54,700 |
| IT business analysts, architects and systems designers | 2133 | £54,900 |
| IT managers | 2132 | £55,000 |
| Cyber security professionals | 2135 | £48,500 |
| Civil engineers | 2121 | £50,400 |
| Electrical engineers | 2123 | £58,700 |
| Chartered and certified accountants | 2421 | £49,200 |
| Solicitors and lawyers | 2412 | £51,600 |
Technology has the clearest pattern. The main IT codes sit between £48,500 and £55,000, so most sponsored tech offers have to start well above the general threshold. Management consultants and business analysts (code 2431) are at £50,200, and the code that covers statistical data scientists (2433) is at £55,100.
Engineering, accountancy and law work the same way. Only the offer that meets the going rate for your exact code will pass, so ask the employer which code they plan to use. Jobs below degree level generally qualify only if they are on a shortage or salary list.
Universities and research are different. Research and teaching codes such as 2111 to 2115, 2119, 2161, 2162 and 2311 are exempt from the Immigration Skills Charge, and PhD holders may qualify for the discounts in the table above. That can make a research post easier for an employer to sponsor.
5. Care Workers, Nurses and Doctors: What Is Open and What Closed
Overseas recruitment of care workers and senior care workers closed to new entry clearance applications on 22 July 2025. Only workers already in the UK in those roles can still apply to stay, on certain conditions, under transitional rules that run to 22 July 2028. If someone offers you a care worker visa from outside the UK, treat it as a warning sign.
The Health and Care Worker visa is still open to qualified doctors, nurses, health professionals and adult social care professionals. The job must be with the NHS, an NHS supplier or in adult social care, and the employer must be an approved sponsor. On this visa you do not pay the immigration health surcharge, though you still pay the application fee and must show your savings.
Pay in these jobs follows national pay scales by band and by UK nation, so a registered nurse can qualify on a salary below £41,700. Doctors, dentists, nurses and midwives who have already passed an assessment accepted by their regulator do not need a separate English test. Check any NHS trust or private care provider on the register the same way you would check a company, and read the GOV.UK Health and Care Worker visa page before you pay for anything.
6. Other Rules to Check Before You Apply
Salary is only one part of the decision. The table lists the rules that most often trip up applicants, with the dates they started.
| Rule | What applies | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Job level | New applications are limited to degree-level (RQF 6) jobs, unless the job is on a shortage list | 22 July 2025 |
| English | CEFR level B2 for new applications | 8 January 2026 |
| Skills Charge | Employer pays £1,320 (medium or large) or £480 (small or charity) for the first 12 months | Current rate |
| Decision time | About 3 weeks from outside the UK, 8 weeks from inside | Usual times |
| Visa length | Up to 5 years, then extend or apply to settle | Current rule |
You prove English with an approved secure English language test such as IELTS for UKVI, a UK degree, or a degree taught in English with an Ecctis assessment. A nationality exemption list exists, so check the GOV.UK English language page. Depending on where you have lived, you may also need a tuberculosis test from an approved clinic, so book early.
Employers must now meet the required pay in every pay period, not as an annual average, under rules that took effect on 8 April 2026. Ask for a contract that shows monthly pay clearing the going rate. Do not accept a vague “package” figure.
The Skilled Worker page still says you may be able to settle after five years. The government has consulted on a 10-year model, but that is not yet in the rules and no start date has been announced, so check GOV.UK before you plan around it.
7. How to Spot a Sponsorship Scam
The sponsor pays for sponsorship. The Home Office sponsor guidance says the employer assigns the certificate of sponsorship and pays the certificate fee and the Immigration Skills Charge. If anyone asks you for a fee for a “certificate”, a “slot” or a “compliance cost”, walk away.
Verify before you trust. Find the employer on the register, then contact it through the careers page or main number on its own website. Be careful with offers that arrive only by messaging apps or free email addresses, and with anyone who promises a visa.
Important Note: No agent, recruiter or employer can guarantee a visa, because the Home Office decides every application. Never pay for a job offer, and never send passport scans to someone you have not checked.
For personal advice, use a solicitor or an adviser registered with the Immigration Advice Authority. GOV.UK warns that you cannot get your money back if an adviser is not regulated. Our guide to choosing an immigration solicitor in the UK explains what to check, and you can search the regulator through GOV.UK’s immigration adviser page.
8. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find UK companies offering visa sponsorship in 2026?
Download the Register of Licensed Sponsors from GOV.UK and filter it for the Skilled Worker route and an A rating. Then check each employer’s own careers page for a vacancy that matches your occupation.
Is £43,000 the minimum salary for a UK sponsored job?
No. The general figure is £41,700, or the going rate for your occupation if that is higher. Many degree-level jobs have a going rate above £43,000, and some categories can be paid less.
Does being on the register mean a company will sponsor me?
No. It only means the Home Office has licensed the organisation. The company still has to have a suitable vacancy, offer you enough pay and choose to sponsor you.
Can I still get a care worker visa from Nigeria or another country?
No. New overseas applications for care worker and senior care worker roles closed on 22 July 2025. Qualified nurses and doctors can still use the Health and Care Worker visa.
Can I be sponsored on less than £41,700?
Sometimes. Under-26s, recent graduates, some PhD holders, postdoctoral posts and immigration salary list jobs have lower minimums, and healthcare uses national pay scales. Your case may depend on details, so confirm it on GOV.UK or with a regulated adviser.
How long does a Skilled Worker visa decision take?
GOV.UK says decisions usually take about 3 weeks from outside the UK and 8 weeks from inside. You can apply up to 3 months before the start date on your certificate of sponsorship.
9. Next Steps for Finding UK Visa Sponsorship Jobs in 2026
Start with your occupation. Find your code and its going rate in the appendix, then build a short list of A-rated employers on the register in your sector and city. Use each employer’s careers page to find real vacancies, and keep notes of every salary you are offered against the going rate.
Plan the money side early. Budget for the visa fee, an English test, a TB test if you need one, your first month’s housing and travel insurance for the journey. Our guide to temporary housing in the UK covers the first weeks, and a regulated money transfer service is the safer way to send money home once you start earning.
